LOS ANGELES, CA – MARCH 23, 2010 — The award winning Video Games Live show has once again pulled out all the stops in its groundbreaking effort to show the world how artistic and culturally significant video games have become. On Thursday, April 1st, 2010 at 8pm, Video Games Live will be performing with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the Kenner Pontchartrain Center for a nationwide television special which will start airing July 31, 2010 on PBS as well as a companion DVD, Blu-Ray and album. This will be the biggest Video Games Live production ever staged, with more special fx, screens, special guests and segments than ever before.
Another movie is setting its stage in New Orleans.
Filming begins Monday in the French Quarter. The action-packed motion picture will have all the bells and whistles, including simulated gunfire.
“The movie ‘Red,’ starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren, will be working on North Peters from St. Louis to Bienville,” said Jennifer Day, of the New Orleans Office of Film and Video.
Denny DeGrusha owns Johnny’s Po-Boys on St. Louis Street. The big-budget feature will be spurring off gunshots, explosions and stunts just around the corner from DeGrusha’s restaurant.
“I think the movie industry has been a tremendous boost for the city of New Orleans and brings national attention to the city, and this is something that’s greatly needed,” he said.
With eight games remaining in the regular season, New Orleans Hornetsthree-time All-Star point guard Chris Paul can no longer use the motivation of trying to overcome long shot odds to make the playoffs.
In a season highlighted by inconsistent defensive play and injuries, the Hornets were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention after a 112-101 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night in front of 16,475 at the New Orleans Arena.
The Hornets (34-40) essentially took themselves out of playoff contention for the past month after losing 10 of 11 games on the road and 14 of 18 overall.
It is the first time in three years the Hornets (34-40) won’t make the postseason. In addition, they remain in jeopardy of suffering their first losing season since the 2006-07 season when they fared 38-44. It’s a blow for a franchise that won 49 games last season and achieved a franchise-record 56 victories in 2007-08.
“Regardless of injuries we’ve got to get better as a team,’’ Paul said. “Hopefully we can do good in the draft. We want to come back this year hungrier than ever – it’s all about next year. ’’
